User Interview Participants
Street Cleaning
Multiple users cite street cleaning schedules as a consistent challenge, leading to parking restrictions and potential fines
Signage Clarity
There's a recurrent theme of unclear or misleading street signs, which complicates the parking process and can lead to mistaken assumptions. Users report having to physically get out of their cars to understand street parking rules.
Dynamic Needs
Depending on their specific activities, such as meetings in varying locations or parties, users' parking needs and challenges can change.
Paying for Parking
Users desire a nationwide consolidation of parking payment options integrated into the Apple Maps parking feature preferably with apple pay. Users report every city uses their own payment app resulting in having multiple apps for multiple cities or lots.
Metered Street Parking
Strict parking enforcement, especially concerning meters and permit parking areas, heightens user anxiety and can result in tickets
User Interview Key Takeaways
User Pain Points
Safety
Users prioritize safety, especially in unfamiliar areas or when concerns related to personal security arise. Many user’s expressed safety concerns when parking in more urban downtown areas
Availability & Duration
Users desire real-time information on parking availability, including price and length of availability, to make informed decisions.
Cost
Parking decisions are influenced by factors such as the duration of the stay and cost considerations, with users preferring street parking or parking structures based on their needs.
Convenience
The convenience of parking options, including ease of access and proximity to the destination, plays a significant role in decision-making.
Metered Street Parking
The proximity of parking options to the final destination is a key factor considered by users when choosing parking.
Accessibility
Ease of getting in and out of a parking spot or facility, including the presence of ramps, elevators, or escalators, can be crucial, especially for individuals with mobility challenges.

A Tale of Two Drivers
In our exploration of user dynamics, a surprising uniformity emerged. regardless of their commuting style, everyone grapples with unfamiliar parking challenges. The true distinction lies not in how they commute, but how they approach the unknown: the meticulous planners versus the spontaneous navigators.
“I'd rather spend an hour planning now rather than face surprises later.”
-Meticulous Mia
"Life's too short to plan every little detail. I'll figure it out when I get there."
-Spontaneous Simon
